Dr. Lamar King was born in Newberry County, South Carolina.His father ran the local country store.He grew up in the “BushRiver” community, a small farming community in upstate South Carolina, and in the BushRiverBaptistChurch.
A graduate of FurmanUniversity and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, he has spoken to hundreds of groups all over the southeast.He has led numerous conferences and retreats for community, civic and college groups.He has been the pastor of some of the south’s most prestigious and influential churches including the First Baptist Church, Charleston, SC, the south’s oldest Baptist church; and the University Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD, directly across the street from the Johns Hopkins University.
He combines clean, original humor and artful storytelling with his mastery of the art of public speaking to delight and entertain audiences of all sizes and persuasions.In addition to his careers as a pastor and public speaker, he has served as a college trustee, a trustee with NC Baptist Homes for the Aging, and as a leader among his peers in all facets of church and community life.In 1999, he was appointed by the City Manager of Boone, NC to head up the “Disaster Preparedness” government initiative to design and implement programs to prepare resort communities for various disasters.He has been a lifelong member of community and civic clubs including Kiwanis, Rotary, and Ruritan. He presently serves as a member of the High Point Prison Ministry Board of Directors.
His messages of humor and hope have delighted and inspired large and small groups. He has become an authority on the art and challenge of living and serving as productive, energized leaders, employees and citizens.
